Lourdes
By Jessica Hausner
This is a personal view, but I feel sorry for the people that expect miracles to take place at Lourdes, when they have no trust in themselves or others. 2 out of 5 for this poor story.

A jaw dropping beautiful movie (documentary) about a little boy and his father at the coral reefs of Mexico that show us the love for nature and how we all should honour it. 5 out of 5

Running Turtle
By Lee Yeon-Woo
South Korea’s most visited movie. It’s a comedy from start to end. Never thought I would ever be laughing with a Korean movie. 4 out of 5.

Blood and Bones
By Sai Yoichi
One of the many films, featured at the Iffr 2010, of Sai Yoichi. The film took over 2 and a half hours to tell the story about a man and his family which he oppressed with furious anger. Impressive film that is in no way too long. 5 out of 5!

Surprise film:
Gainsbourg: Je T’aime, Moi Non Plus / Vie héroïque
by Joann Sfar
The last feature on Friday night was a surprise film and nobody knew what it was going to be. When we stuffed the theater full with 760 people, the movie could begin and to everybody’s surprise it was the biopic on Serge Gainsbourg (Lucien Ginsburg) , the writer of the most famous erotic-tinted song ever written: “Je T’aime, moi non plus” who died in 1992 at the age of 62.
Lucy Gordon, who plays the part as Gainsbourg’s muse Jane Birkin, has killed herself weeks after filming and finishing this movie. Thus the movie is dedicated to her.
Jane Birkin was the girlfriend of Gainsbourg in ‘69 that presented “Je T’aime” to the world after Brigitte Bardot backed out of it, although Bardot was the one who had originally recorded it and for whom the song was written.
The movie contains the best and most beautiful music of Serge Gainsbourg.
Here’s a clip on the recordings of those songs for the film.

Women Without Men
By Shirin Neshat
Visually impressive feature debut by the Iranian visual artist Shirin Neshat. She filmed the novel by Shahrnush Parsipur, which is banned in Iran, about the vicissitudes of four women against the background of the 1953 coup that made it possible for the Shah to continue his despotic regime. Dark and heavy but beautiful and emotional 3 out of 5

Sun Spots
By Yang Heng
A slow and raw picture, shot in HD and without camera movement, but every scene had it’s value. The characters tell their story with hardly any words but in an animal like way where lighting a sigaret is an anwser to a lot of questions. 3 out of 5

Lebanon
By Samuel Maoz
A very intens movie that grabs you from start to end. Drama and emotions that are very real and direct. A superb and heavy but definatly 5 out of 5!

Les signes vitaux
By Sophie Deraspe
This is why I don’t work in healthcare, dying people is something that gets under my skin and I have a hard time handling. So I actually walked out of this one after 45 minutes. I must admit that the first half was impressive and really touched a nerve, so as far as opinions go, I will still give it a 3 out of 5.

Life During Wartime
By Todd Solondz
If somebody finds the tempo or potential clue of this film, please return it to lost and found at the volunteers area. 1 out of 5.

No One Knows About Persian Cats
By Bahman Ghobadi
An Iranian film of which the director is no longer welcome in his country.
The most impressive documentary I have ever seen, next to last years doc about Baghdad. Wauw, one word wauw, I actually had tears flowing during the beautiul songs played by the people in the movie and the lyrics that tell their story. The directors girlfriend is also present after the screening, she is the journalist that was jailed in Iran last year on the suspision of spying. Two beautiful people that love their country that is slowly starting to love them back, but still has a long way to come.
5 out of 5!

The Trotsky
by Jacob Tierney
A hilarious film, that was a joy to watch, about a student that thinks he is the reincarnation of the great Trotsky. It was chosen as the Volunteer Movie for us and it ended around 1:30 AM after already a day of watching films and guiding the public in and out of other screenings, but at no time during this film did I have the urge to fall asleep.
A solid 5 out of 5 and a must-see.
